What is LoRaWAN?

LoRaWAN enables an efficient, wireless connection between battery-powered devices and the internet. Thanks to its long range and low energy consumption, LoRaWAN is the ideal solution for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. This technology enables reliable communication over long distances with minimal energy requirements, while optimising the performance and service life of IoT devices.

BENEFITS

Benefits of LoRaWAN

LoRaWAN has low energy consumption, allowing battery-powered devices to operate for many years without replacing the batteries. Its long range means data can be transmitted over several kilometres, even in urban areas with many obstacles or in agricultural settings.

How it works

How LoRaWAN works

LoRaWAN is based on a Low Power Wide Area Network protocol (LPWAN) specifically developed for wireless communication over long distances with minimal energy consumption. In a LoRaWAN network, end devices such as sensors and actuators communicate via LoRa gateways, which forward the data to a central network server. This server manages the data and ensures its secure transmission to the relevant endpoints, such as cloud-based applications. The network dynamically adapts to environmental conditions to ensure the optimum balance between range and energy consumption.

Area of use

LoRaWAN use cases

LoRaWAN enables wireless, low-energy networking of sensors and devices in buildings. climIoT uses this LoRaWAN wireless technology in schools, universities, town halls, care facilities and other public or commercial buildings to collect room data and control heating and building functions according to demand.

climIoT is designed for public-sector projects and companies with larger building areas. Individual requirements can be taken into account, and the components can be deployed according to the respective building and usage profile.

Wireless communication enables implementation with minimal installation work—even in existing buildings.
